hi - this may jsut be a silly question and probably thinking too much into it, so apologies if it is as straightforward as i think though just need to be 100% sure

i have been asked to check a couple radiators control valves and see if they need replacing....

what would be the things that you would need to check to see if they were faulty / need replacing

i would at a guess say - either they were leaking or just old valves that needed an upgrade to TRV's for e.g.

your replies would be greatly appreciated - please put me out of my misery.,

thanks

Tony

Tony dude, radiator valves only need replacing if they leak i.e from the packing gland, this also can be fixed very easily with some p.t.f.e and jointing compound and i think the life span of a radiator valve is about 15-20 years, also fitting trv's you need to be carful cause theres some cheap ones that come from china and they are directional valves (either on the flow or return) and be sure not to put and on solid fuel systems. cheers hope this helps abit.

give an explanation as to why you cant put trv on solid fuel then hugh?.

If you are using a solid fuel systems it is always best to leave a few radiators without thermostatic radiator valves. This is to allow the solid fuel boiler to dump the heat from the boiler without restriction. If restriction accoured it may vent over into f&e tank .
