Radiator Piping

Hello from sunny Bulgarian.
I,m a semi retired plumber from the uk now living in bulgaria.
A small question i have is regarding the pipework to radiators over here ie they tend to have one pipe entering the rad at the bottom (flow) and the other exiting from the top (return) this is on normal panel rads using wood burning stoves through an open vented (F&E) pumped system. Now to me this is ugly and i want to run pipework through the bottom tapings of the rads
am i overlooking any obvious reasons for this or as i feel it,s just the way they do things here ? many thanks in advance.

Hi You mention wood burning stove, It may well be that the system is designed to work on gravity as any electrical interruption would render a pump useless, Causing a heat distribution problem that can become dangerous. If designed to work on gravity one would expect the pipe work to be larger bore than that of fully pumped system. Good Luck

i think you haave this the wrong way round, the flow always goes in the top and the return in the bottom, this gives you better efficiency that bottom/bottom, also on a gravity system its the only way to make it work

a gravity system with flow at the bottom and return at the top would definately NOT work

The tend to do it that way in Europe in general even on two pipe fully pumped systems

Hi again and thanks to all ,I have now installed my own system as mentioned above through the bottom tapings and getting perfect heat output to all the radiators. Ref the pump and power cuts have also installed a ups back up system rated for 8 hours .
