Got to fix a slightly weeping rad tail.

Can turn valves off.

Are there any tricks to repairing it without draining the rad, removing, ptfe & screwing back in?

Cheers

Rct

You could loosen, just a bit, the tail nut and get your spanner on the rad tail to tighten it, if you can. It works sometimes, as long as your rad tail doesn’t need the hex key.

Turn valves off, have another tail ptfe and pasted. Towel underneath, disconnect valve, screw out old tail, screw in new one and resecure valve.

Dont need to be quick, just precise. Water in the rad creates a vacuum so you only get little glugs of water.

You can also slap a compression cap end on the tail once the rad valve is disconnected.

Drop the pressure in rad viva bleed, lsx round the tail where its leaking, not the best fix but it works

I shut the valves off, open air vent make sure the valves are holding and release pressure, shut air vent, undo nut and pull valve out of the way (with a tub and a couple of towels underneath, as Simon said it doesn't run out just glugs out slowly) put my finger over the edge of the tail whist I undo it, when tail is out put a 1/2" cap in rad until I have ptfe tail again then put it back in.

You don't have to be quick on it as I'm not usually I just take my time and work through it gently, I find if I rush then things go wrong, usually you will only get a cup full of water come out.

Had one today closed valves relieved pressure through bleed valve, close it then slacken compresion nut on lock shield towels underneath. Undid tail to just before it came out ptfe it. Tightened up all good.
