Hello All ,
I had a call from a Lady ,she has trouble with cold patchs at bottom of rads so I went around to see her .
Oil boiler , 7 rads in 3 bedroom house , open vented . Rads are quite old , look like Stelrad with no convectors .
any way the funny thing is that their is a lockshield at one end and at the other NO valve . Just a chrome elbow and pipe going under floor . i havent seen a system like that before . Could it be a one pipe system ???
greatfull for any thoughts ,, Thanks

I would go with a one pipe system... only thing i could think of that would be like that.

Theres every chance, you'll have to trace some pipe work to find out.

Very likely to be a one pipe.

Put some cleaner in for a week, then take rads off and run a hose through, difficult system to power flush

Thanks for your replies . Ch4 , very good . Thanks Leo and Chalked , do you think if i changed elbows for Trv's the rads would work ok ? Some of the Lockshields are seized so I quess the least that i ought to do is Remove rads clean out and put new lock shields on .

Thanks Jc plumb , The only reason that I was thinking of trv s was that some of the old lockshields are stuck and the lady wants to be able to shut off some rads .
But I think I will drain system and remove rads , blast out with hose and fit new lockshields . And leave the other end with the chrome elbow .
Cheers all .

There no reason you shouldn't fit a lock shield and a wheel head, for future maintenance.
