When the hot water is switched on the upstairs rads get warm. I guess theres an issue with the anti gravity valve. Where will I find this and should I replace it myself? Also a question aside. How do you tell if your hot water is gravity fed?

Thanks in advance

Just searched your previous posts and found this sentence you posted in one of your posts back in December 2008

I am enrolled with BTSC Manchester and have just completed mod 3 hot water.

Are you trading as a plumber? or still training?

I could do with a anti gravity valve, at my age could fit it just below my waste line or under me men boobs :D

You could be getting some back feed to radiators,a non return valve could have been fitted on the heating return if old gravity system ,if you can not see it on visible return pipework could be under floor boards upstairs
How can you tell if you have hot water gravity system,28mm flow and return to cylinder ,no cyliner thermostat, pump on heating return, cold feed and vent connected to flow and return at cylinder, when you turn hot water on boiler comes on only with no pump, very large gas bills, get a gravity system diagram off the internet and compare
But then again you could have a fully pumped singing and dancing system with heating motorised valve by passing

Thanks Puddle. I know the difference but if you wandered into a house how would you tell quickly it was gravity HW without ripping up floorboards. I guess listening for a pump would be a good way or seeing if theres a thermostat on the cylinder. Cheers

Just turn on the basin hot tap, put your thumb to the nozzle and try and stop the water coming out, if you cant and it sprays you in the face then its not gravity fed.
Or you could just ask the homeowner if they've got a roof tank and cylinder.

Edit, i made a mistake, am still learning about all the different systems and got confused (no return pipes on the radiators doesn't make any sense), i guess you could just check if there's a pump as full gravity systems have no pump, or 22 mm pipes on the radiators.
Props to migo for rumbling me as an amateur, sorry :(

Can you explain that. Can you not have a header tank on a fully pumped system?

Sorry nzmanc (hands held up) i obviously misunderstood the question. There are lots of diagrams on internet showing the fully pumped and gravity systems. Just google gravity fed hot water and click images. I think puddle explains the best.
(mental note to self......read and understand before posting reply)
