If you was to try a different job/career what would it be? Just a wondering as clearly this game will never make you rich unless you work for yourself IMO the wages are dropping regularly now.

what would you realistically re train as or start out in if you had your time again

I'd be a school teacher if I could turn back time.
PE teacher was actually the job I was going to go into, but couldn't face going straight back into school, so thought ill work for a year, tasted the money and never went back!

not exactly high earnings though is it

I bet you would!!!

I always wanted to join the army & eventually the marines! The regimented & extreme tests of fitness of mind & body always strangely appealed to me!!

Same as that, I'd fly at the physical side but tbh never really had the bottle to enrol, I'd shizz my pants in a genuine gun to gun battle

It was a rare serious comment by me!

That's what concerns me even more!!

In all seriousness, I did also consider becoming a PE teacher but my maths wasn't up to grade to get on the Uni course! :-( I used to do a lot of sports coaching so teaching in a school appealed to me also.

You wouldn't mate...we all have more minerals than we think. No1 knows how we'll react in that situation but the training and trust you have in your pals around you makes it a lot easier. The first time I was in one I didn't really think about it until it was over and then thought wow, that was good fun.

Been in the Royal Navy, now im a heating engineer, so changed course once already.

If i had my time again id be a dentist, sat on my arse all day listening to radio 2 raking in £100,000

I was a multi discipline maintenance engineer on BT working on heating, vent, air con, lifts and generators. When the work was outsourced I was redeployed to the major projects group and trained up as a Clerk of Works overseeing multi million pound jobs turning telephone exchanges into office accomodation.

BT were sucked in by the Y2K myth and I had the opportunity to retrain as an IT enigineer, qualified with 2 MCP's and an MCSE (Win2000:Networks). The IT section was taken over by Computacenter and so I worked for them for a few years.

Then 2005 I moved to NI and went back to what I was doing in the first place - commercial plumbing!

But when I was 17/18 I was a hairs breadth from joining the navy. Sometimes wonder what would have happened but then my path has led me here to Mrs Croppie whom I love greatly and 2 kids and a stepkid who I also love.

Would I change a thing? Naahhhhhhh! I'd do it all the same againg!

hate to say it but if you had joined the army the Royal Marines wouldnt have wanted you, being they are part of the RN and rather picky :)

I'm making an appointment with the Army Careers Office this week. Getting fed up with this industry, going to give it another year and either apply for REME or Parachute Regiment.

I've always had the Army at the back of my mind, but the last few months I haven't been able to shift the thought.

Well there we are then, learn something new everyday! I just wish someone would have given me a good talking to & given me the right advice at the right time.

I'd go back in the Royal Navy, joined when I was 17 and going to be aircraft engineer. Got injured in week 6 of basic, few weeks in hospital and then Sat recoup for month. Couldn't heal quick enough.

not a week gone by I don't think about it.

Such is life.

i will probably do this job for the next long 5 years if I get on a contract again and earn about 100k a year for the next 5 and then retire ...

Life's full of "what ifs" Tom ....

if i was a teen again i would either join the navy or go to uni to do chemical engineering

Just remember when you all do retrain, that you will then be the cause of the downfall of whatever trade you choose, and you will get serious stick from the forums just as you lot do now haha

I would be a stable boy in the 1800's, my weekly wage would be a litterally kick in the balls and I would consider myself lucky to get that.
