Im a bit confused to what the real average wage of a plumber is, I mean you get so many salesmen and dodgy sites promising extreme salarys. I was wondering if its not to personal if a few of you could give me real figures on say last 2-3 years... I know there has been a bad time with credit crunch but its good to know what real plumbers are earning and not what we get told of salesmen... I suppose down the south you will earn more than the north?

Rates vary from area to area, but you will find that plumbers will have higher rates where the cost of living and business costs are higher, and also lower rates where competition is more intense.

Oh yes i gather that mate, I was wondering what the real rates where though, Im up in manchester and i know they are not as high up here as they are down south.. I was just wondering figures.

blackpool working for a firm, gas qualified heating engineer 25k

Jib rate working for a Jib reg company was £11.15 ish per hour last year for an advanced gas plumber( ie NVQ level 3 qualified), 8hrs a day, so £450 ish a week top line, whats that then? £23k ish per year?.
This is realistic, you can earn alot more if on price/bonus, but dont expect any of that in the current climate.
also people shouldnt be under the illusion of completeing one of these fast track courses, starting up on thier own and then earning 50k in thier first year of trading. Its 3 to 5 yrs of hell before your properly established and at least 3 yrs before your any good and in my opinion 10yrs before you can call yourself really competent, and even then evry day is a school day. I am just about to put on my flame proof suite now, this is just my opinion iam sure many will disagree with me, nothing personal.

£18-25k pa is the realistic answer across the board.
there are a few exeptions and based on where you live etc, but i bets thats the average from all single plumbers s/emp & employed mixed.

I find earning like a yoyo :( I have known to have earnt zilch the odd week or two. But I have also known it for £1900 for a week. December was my best to date £3200. When I say earnings I really mean turnover, but yes it was all profitable :D.

And yes everyday for me is a school day and love it :D

Wow thanks people, That clears a few things i have ven noticed some plumbers jobs yesterday for £7.50 per hour scandalous....

Blackcatgas that makes perfect sence to me mate.

Ahh yes, see the vans around alot. Wasnt interested in applying for a job, just may bump into you once or twice around lytham. I do some work for a firm in lytham. Actually see one of the vans i think alot going down the m55 into the area in the mornings and away at evenings.
