Hi All,

I had a chrome towel rail installed in my bathroom last summer....

No surprise you may say, but was frrezing in there over the winter 😡 to the extent that with young children, I want to get this changed.

bathroom is quite big, with a walk in shower in one room and big bath at the other end....

Options my plumber has thought of is:

1) Put in a rad against one wall, which I have the space, but he will have to rip up some tiles on the floor and wall and as there is a garage underneath he can run the pipe work that way

2) As there is a loft above, he stated there are some recessed ceilein heaters which run off the electric which might be less messy, but prob more expensive as they cost more.

I will work out the cost of doing both options, but does any one know if these recessed ceiling heaters will actually heat the room properly and how energy efficient are they. I have looked them up, but there is no word on whether they are actullay any good and will heat a room?

Thank you for your advice.

Your options as you say are extra heating through a radiator. Could one be positioned adjacent to your towel rail and the pipes linked?

Otherwise regarding electric heaters you are best to talk to an electrician. I'm sure there are some reputable guys near you who you can ask. Whatever you get it MUST be of the correct IP rating for a bathroom or it could be dangerous.

Have you enough insulation in your loft (eg 150mm) or that could be where your heat is going?

Personally I'd add an extra radiator.

Thanks.

There is unfortunately no space next to the towel rail so it has to be against the wall on the left hand side, at the other end of the bathroom......

Just wondered if these heaters actually do what they say and will not cots be more overall in elect bill.....

Thanks again

Again, you really need to ask a spark - this is mainly a forum for plumbers.

As regards to kids moaning its to cold in winter, would not worry, once you sort the cold out ,they will only moan about some think else, give them some mints to suck on
with regard to mess and ,saving wise, why not remove towel rail fit double radiator in it's place and fit smaller towel rail on wall above radiator, supplied by pipes from top of radiator, just make sure you get rad with 1/2 tappings on top, existing towel rail you have now sell and put towards works
other option if you are tight on space is to recess bath panel and fit radiator into bath side

you could always install a fan convector in the ceiling run by the heating pipes !

Thanks all for your avdice, defo a few tings to consider.

Bath options are not an option as the bath is a stand alone bath at one end but with room all around it....

Thanks again.

Thanks,

Reckon I will go with that.

The tiles on the floor are too hard he says to drill through and so will have to rip them up for the pipes to come via the garage and then replace them...

reckon I have to do this, as I need it to be warmer in there and a good rad will do the trick, assuming double rad should suffice.....?

Thanks
