I went to look at a job today converting an open vented system to a combi boiler and when I asked the lady where she got my number from she said BG gave it to her along with another local plumber! They are also coming to quote this job.

What is that all about?

Ive had that too, although I used to to sub for them so I thought that was where it came from.

watch your back guys.

they are testing the market prices in prep for a surge imo.

It's really odd. I do live about three minutes' walk from this job though. Maybe they just found the 2 nearest GSR searching by postcode? Surely they are gonna be doing themselves out of work? If I'm pricing more than them I'll be worried...

Probably feeling the pinch from Johnny Balls £17 a month crew.

They're not gonna know what I priced it up as, are they?

If I lose out on a job I always ask the cust by how much. Tell them it's to improve my estimating process, continuous improvement etc. Then generally finish with a 'you know where I am if you need me'.

Happened to me once, that was years ago though, probably a job they do not want to do and they want to make sure punter gets other, better prices to be drawn towards :freak:

of course they are, ish!.

they probably quote for more boilers in your area than you do.
it wouldnt be hard for them to know what everyone in the country charges by trial and error if they wanted because of the mass budget they will have in place for the purpose. fortunately, they dont need to, but i bet they know what your ball-park figure is already.
then there is the boiler package scam they will try on with the customer afterwards.

I would make sure you quote AFTER they have been, and make sure you get told exactly what they are quoting for.

have to agree with REDSAW on this one, looks like they are trying a surge tactic.

they have huge overheads and so far, this winter has been a bit lean for them. think about it!.
