Hi,
i have just bought a Redring Power Stream 10.8kw heater unit and a Atmos Fusion Thermostatic Concentric Mixer Valve shower unit and have noticed that in the redring instructions it says 'In order for the Powerstream to function correctly, the “Redring Mixer Kit” must be used.
The kit, Cat No. 85-793605'

Is this a case of Redring wanting to keep everything in house or will the heater unit work ok with the thermostic mixer shower i've already bought? After all whats the difference between heating water in an electric boiler unit to say, a gas combi? both heat water to be mixed at the outlet, or am i missing something simple?

Any help would be most gratefully recieved as the missus is going to cry if she has to part with her flashy new shower unit for the more basic Redring model :-((

cheers,
walt

The powerstream will not provide enough hot water for the thermostatic shower valve. The smallest size combi is 24kw which is more than twice the power of the powerstream. The redring shower valves are a very basic shower valve that lets all of the hot water capacity through and you control the temperature by adding small amounts of cold water.

Many thanks Mike, very clear description. Looks like i'm in the market for a manual shower mixer.

All the best

Hi Mike,
i wonder if you could answer another question regarding the Redring Powerstream please?
Does it matter where in the line the heater is placed? For example, is it permissable for the 15mm copper mains to Tee off to supply cold water to the shower before it is taken to the heater [as this is the easier piping option for the job] and then on to supply the hot water to the shower, or will taking cold water off before the heater cause flow problems to the heater?

Hope this makes sense?
Many thanks,
walt :)

Hi Mike
Wonder if I could ask a related question? You mentioned that the Redring shower valve lets through all the hot water. Is that special to Redring`s own shower valve or would any manual shower valve work equally well?
Thanks
