Refitting Bow Clips

I'm trying to refit a "bow" clip onto a valve, similar to the clip and valve shown here.

It came off fine, but my attempts to push it back on have failed. Is there any technique to this, or am I missing something obvious?

All must be a perfect fit, swop back and try new clip then old clip if poss it may narrow things down.

Make sure item is pushed in enough.

Some items require 1 leg of the clip to go inside and 1 on the outside (even though it has 2 holes to go inside).
