Replacing a UFH blending valve

have to replace this valve today for an UFH circuit.

Question: what is the flow mixed with to reduce the temp?

Is it literally just flow and return pipes?

It is just flow and return pipes.
The flow temperature is reduced by the return water temperature

Yes very crude way of doing it by using a tmv2/3 but it works

Yeah I've not seen it done like that before.. I kinda knew it was flow/return pipes but just wanted to double check.
