Replacing Roca cistern innards

I have a noisy cistern and from reading other posts the roca cistern valve is poorly designed and needs replacing. Others recommend the torbeck bottom entry cistern valve. Before I head off to B&Q or wherever, do I need to take the existing gear off so that I know the size of the hole in the ('ceramic') cistern tank? It is single flush, lever operated. Many thanks. I liked the footnote of one responder "If it aint broke, keep on fixing it until it is!""

I would recommend the Fluidmaster cistern valve. (also available from B&Q). Better than the Torbeck in that it is compact and fully adjustable.

Hi WHPES. Thanks for replying and suggesting the fluidmaster. Do I need to remove the existing kit to find out the size of the hole?

Fit the fluid master for sure and the hole will be fine. That said if I was you I'd buy a kit and replace the syphon, fill valve and doughnut washer. You will need a 2" outlet for the syphon. B&Q sell a wirquid kit which is good as well if you can get a fliudmaster kit. The flush buttons on both these kits will fit the Roca.

Thanks for replying. Old roca cistern valve removed. Off to B&Q tomorrow! Best wishes.

Have noticed the Fluidmaster instructions refer to adjustments relative to the overflow. The roca does not have an overflow. Is the fluidmaster I have bought only suitable for a cistern WITH an overflow pipe? Thanks.

you have got an overflow its internal set the valve to deliver water level 20 mm below the level it overflows at ie fit it see if it stop if yes raise it till over flow then back of or vica versa

Thanks for that Steve. I will do as you say. I can now return to trawling the web for guidance on personal plumbing (prostate). If only the remedy was on the shelf at B&Q! Cheers. Derek😀
