Evening chaps, I'll try to keep it short.

I've recently started working for a guy for the past two weeks on a self-employed basis. Obviously I'm gas safe, but it turns out that my new boss is not. He fits boilers and carries out gas work weekly.

He asked me to go and commission and sign off a boiler he fitted a few weeks ago. I outright said no and was annoyed of the cheek of him. He then said ok, I'll get my mate to do it, who had been previously signing his gas work off.

This frustrates me so much, knowing how hard and how much money it took to gain my gs.

If I was to go about reporting him, he'd probably get away with it anyway wouldn't he as his friend is signing off all of his gas work.

Your thoughts as to what to do would be appreciated.

report them both, it probably wont come to anything unless a customer complains or asks for an inspection but you might get something done, cant see you working with him long though:)

There really is only one correct answer but if this is your only source of income I can understand your quandry.

i have been chasing a few recently myself....

pm 'reg man' on here he has all the freinds in the right places ;)

lets get rid of them all.

The payrise would be nice lol. But yeah, atm it is my main source of income, but not only source, so I reckon I wont be there too much longer.

The guy is a bit of a patronising you know what, he asked me if I knew what a system boiler was the other day. My response was just a blank stare back in disbelief.

Maybe he didn't know the answer? :devil2:

all i can advise at this stage is that he is actually taking the work away from you in the first place!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

collect as much paper evidence you can from now until you jack him off, that will do!

talk to 'regman'

Cheeky beggar, asking you if you know the different types of boilers, and he is the one not registered!

I too would suspect he does not know!

He'll know full well what different boilers are and also knows what he is doing is pushing the boundaries of legal.
Whether anything would ever be done about it is debatable but gathering and presenting some evidence won't do any harm.

Report him already! We don't spend thousands in training & re-assessment, for this chap just to fit gas boilers willy nilly... He is taking work from legit engineers!, you would not let him steal 500 quid out your wallet so don't let him keep pinching are work!!!

The merchants need to stop selling gas appliances and any thing to do with gas to the general public but they won't because its all about profit to them! And secondly if the legitament Gas Safe engineers stop commissioning boilers for these rouges it would be a start at the very least!

they tried it with airconditioning, you had to have Fgas to be able to buy aircon stuff. It didnt work ended up with just a disclaimer on the invoices saying by buying what ever you were buying you were claiming to be F gas registered as only f gas registered people were allowed to buy them
