Hi, please can someone help. I just moved into a new house and the boiler needs filling up but there is no filling loop. The previous owner did mention how to do this without a loop but I can't recall. I do remember going to the tank upstairs and next to it is a knob which you have to turn after adjusting the valves under the boiler. Any help would be appreciated.

Don't turn the black bit!!!
Post some more pictures if the airing cupboard. You are looking for a silver flexible hose

And one of the black knobs from picture two needs putting the correct way as they are both pointing differently at the minute.

Many thanks guys. Just corrected the black valve position. Does anyone know what the switch is for below the silver-braided hose? Here are some more pics:

The 2 black lever 1 at each end of the braided hose are the ones to turn to raise the pressure. The switch ? Have you got an immersion heater ?

Thanks, you're a hero, that's done the trick. I don't think I have an immersion heater. There is a red LED on the switch which doesn't light up in either switch position.

They are the right way bloody ideals are stupid like that

So the lever with the gauge should be in the horizontal position and the other two on the right vertical?

There right atm / in the pics

You have an immersion heater.its under the grey cover that the two cables coming out of the floor in the picture are going to. Turn the switch on and have a look at the neon after midnight to see if it's been wired to economy 7 or 11 or whatever it's called now...
