Heard a rumour they're going into liquidation - thought this might be helpful to anyone about to pay them any money.

You are correct as of Friday 26th October RF Training went into liquidation.
How do I know for sure? you might ask.
That's easy I was at the Atherton training centre on Friday finishing my 3rd week of the gas foundation course and had just had all my off the job practical assessments done when the insolvency practitioner came in and announced it to not just the trainees but also the staff and then sent us all home!!
if anyone knows of any training centres where I might be able to complete my exams and return after doing my portfolio to do my ACS.

If I was you I'd be writing to the liquidators pronto, asking for your money back, if not you'll be put to the bottom of the list.

I paid by CC so I shouldn't have a problem getting my money back but there were a couple of guys who paid via Debit Card that won't be so lucky.

hmmm, is this a sign of things to come 2 x training centres closed that Iknow of, how many more to follow?

There are far too many training centres - a lot of them beating the drum to the tune of "become qualified and earn £50K a year in no time".

The squeeze should cut the wheat from the chaff. We'll be left with the better establishments hopefully.

I thought the training a received at RF was fine and I could quite easily go out and do gas work without getting my Gas Safe as many do but I didn't want to be one of the "Cowboys" so decided to go through the gas foundation training as I work for myself and it was the best way I feel to go about it.

thought rf was one of the big ones?

They were pal and I think that could have been part of the problem as facilities too big and too many staff for the amount of people wanting to train due to the recession.

oh ok im by the Birmingham one and im just going for my cpa1 at wallsal college they seem well priced they do resits for £580 not sure where you would stand and now you say your in atherton its proberbly a bit too far ...noticed the RF websites still up btw.

As i know from speaking to an advisor, Its through no fault of there own! And an ongoing problem with the debit card supplier who are holding funds, they are looking to start again next week under a new company name and honor all of the training which is booked or outstanding.
Ive spoken to the company through the liquidation process who have backed this claim up.

The training i received was first class, and my advisor was always on hand to help and support me.
Hopefully the training will commence in the near future.

The local training centre to me did this over & over. Closed down, opened up with a tweaked name, or with his wife as the MD instead of him. However each time they went under they knocked suppliers ect. Its a known thing called a phoenix (rising from the ashes). It certainly isn't victimless. They honour the studens training courses, as they don't want the bad word to spread with other punters.

I could be wrong in this instance but:

I booked in to renew my ACS at the Plumbing Academy in Edenbridge. Long story short, I had one of their trainees working for me (doing his NVQ). He told me there was a rumour that they were in liquidation. I checked them out on companies house and indeed they were.

I called them worried as they had a lot of my money. They spun me a load of crap, telling me it was a re-shuffle and not to be concerned.

I was concerned but managed to get my day pushed forward and did it. A few weeks later the bloke working for me called and said he had been at the college when the recievers arrived and kicked everyone out. The bloke running the business had purposely run up big debts, and knocked everyone, and then liquidated the business, he then bought the business back under his wife/mates name and did the same again. The final time, the company was bought by a much larger organisation before he could do the same. So the cycle stopped.

I should add, the training at The plumbing academy was always good, so were the facilities. It was just run by a crook. Still it put me off them, and I now go to a training centre that's over an hour away to upgrade/update my qualifications as opposed to them who are 10 mins away.

I did an electrical course with OLCI and they were pretty good. The guy I dealt with was called Gordon, I've still got a business card somewhere I can try and dig out if you want his contact details?
