Salamander pump issue

Hi there, could someone offer me their advice please? Ive just re located my shower pump from under my bath, to the airing cupboard next to the cylinder. Ive re-newed the pipe run with dedicated hot and cold feeds to the pump, salamander ct50, complete with non stop essex flange. My cold water storage is in the loft, a couple of meters above the hot water cylinder. All in 22 mm up to the av couplings which are 15mm, then 22mm again to the shower valve, which again is 15 mm. my shower is a bath mixer with a rain head riser and a small handset. My problem is that when i select the small handset, the pump starts pulsing on and off. Especially if the handset gets lowered to bath level. Could anyone advise please.

Have you got a good flow rate to the pump, No air in pipework, no debris in filters etc?

Hi yes the filters are clear and the flow to the pump from hot and cold is good. I primed the pump before turning it back on so i would assume that there is no air in there.

If there's a good flow of water with the pump switched off then I'd suggest faulty pump, seem to have lots of probs with salamander pumps of late, they seem so delicate

Is the hot and cold supply pipework to the tap up and over, i.e. through the loft or does it run under the floor from the pump to the bath?

It all runs under the floor to the bath mate

I thought that might be the case. I just didnt want to go out and buy a new one until i had ruled everything else out. Its out of warranty

Hi nellie,

Did you check if the shower head is scaled up? Did you try running the shower without having the head installed? What's the pump like then is it still pulsing? If it's still pulses you could check the filters in the shower.
Does the pump pulse when you run the just cold water?

Perhaps you could upload some pictures.

Ive ran the head with the pump turned off and the flow is really poor, like less than o.5 l a min. Ive noticed though that i might have a negative head situation, in that my cwt is mounted on the joists in the loft and my shower head is not fat off my ceiling. So a lot less than the 600m minimum stated. I might have to bite the bullet and purchase a negative pump. Thanks for your replies everyone.

If you think that it is the CWT can you not build a platform and raise it?

Also a viable option. Its a very old tank though, with straw as the lagging, and the outlet for the cylinder at the very bottom. Would probably need a new tank. Thanks for the reply though.

You could buy a universal pump so you can't do anything wrong if you are unsure about positive or negative head pump.

I was thinking that. Possibly the salamander CT 60 BU.
