has anyone experienced cast rads sinking through a concrete floor due to heat?.
i went today to view a 13 column one that sat directly on the concrete floor connected to 10mm coper tails laid into screed floor. the rad had no brackets and was free-standing!. only the rad had leant back to the wall and sunk at the back about half inch into the concrete?. there is that marley type ashphalt layer on top tho but this is usually only a couple of mm normally. weird, as there is a perfect seal of ashphalt around the rad.:confused:
do you think someone has deliberatley done this as the rad is on 10mm copper and no brackets, to stop it falling forward/.?.

cant you put some threaded bar and a clip to secure it from falling either way and make good floor

problem is, she wants them off for a laminate real wood floor going down which will raise the rad about 12mm or whatever gear the guy puts down?. which means chopping out screed and lifting tails to who knows how high. i can see probs with this one?.
think i will drop it?.

Might be wrong but back in the 70s quite a few ground floors were laid inasphalt upto 6" plus deep over the base concrete base, cheaper than skreeding and a good insulator, and rads do sink in to this floor quite well!!

funny you should say that, the house is around 1970's.
yeasterday, i offered the job to my mate and he wont take it for double the price i quoted.

You can buy wall brackets from most of the cast iron radiator places advertised on the net. I'd just remove it, let them do the floor and fix it to the wall and bring the pipes up to the correct level.
