Never been to one before but now got some I want to shift.

Whats the protocol, just rock up? Any tips for not getting shafted or are they all regulated and above board these days?

Just got taps and copper. Couple wheelie bins full, was planning saving up more but taking up too much space and could prob use the help with my tax bill

Thanks

First time I went in, unloaded, weighed it up, slip of paper and then to office with driving licence and debit card for the refund.

Choose a well run one, weigh yourself at home and see what you weigh at the scrappy. I have used
one for 25 years ....1st time I did this Mr Cain was amused we are firm friends. No cash now , take debit card cash in bank just like that. centralheatking
Its always the way that prices dip before Xmas , also an empty yard will pay more than a rammed one.

remove plastic handles.
You can separate copper from valves etc for a better price.
You need ID.
They will pay by cheque or bank transfer.

you can call around to ask about prices

You need to take your driving licence and bank details if your not already registered with them. And sign a form to declare that it is your property and not nicked from the railway trackside etc.. I use Bramalls a big set up and regulated with calibrated scales a decent outfit round my way. I used to use a small yard but found him to under price my scrap and his scales never read the same as what I expected.

Suprised nobody has mentioned separating copper from other stuff or don't you have to do this to get top money anymore
correct we used to spend ages doing this, sorting on a saturday morning getting it together to go to the pub when it opened at 11.00 ...but unless its large volume and the price is way different
..no more..years ago Mr Cain might say ...go back sort it and return. centralheatking

Use a reputable dealer as said you will need your driving licence and bank details I would not take the whole amount in , take a few sorted out bags of clean copper - mixed metals - brass ect get yourself set up and check monies go through to your bank account over night normally then you can take the rest . Another thing to consider is a waste carriers licence you really should have one but end of the day it's your choice . Good luck kop
