Hi all

just put an sealed system kit on a previously open vented system and the customer called to say that the pressure has dropped a little. topped it up and all is ok 2 days later.

its obviously air trapped in the system but don't like putting aav's in as they can leak.....

was just wondering what every one else does? do you fit aav's on every sealed system you fit?

cheers

I also don't like AAVs because they leak, - especially if they get a lot of heat, like on a boiler.
I don't mind them so much if in a garage or similar & very visible, plus I prefer them on the end of a cold dead leg.
I use manual vents on pipes as no bother with them, but it means the air is not removed easily.
A Flamco air eliminator does a great job, but it still contains an AAV.

I haven't had any problems with flamco AAVs
Spirotop are the best but are about £70 each

trapped air in a system causes corrosion and early parts failure so you have to have a means of getting rid of it if the system is to last, so its a no brainer to install and use them in my mind

Hi all

thanks for your replies.... a split decision then somedo some don't

I'm thinking from now on i might put manual vents on only or a a short 15mm stub with lever valve and an aav above. once purged aav taken off and replaced with a stub and compression cap????

mmmmm....

so when the fresh water breaks down how is the air going to get out?
