I find on gumtree that more and more are selling their old boiler after been upgraded on the eco scheme (free of charge) . How many gas engineers on here would buy a boiler thats been on the wall for a number of years and fit in another property?

eg : PRO COMBI A BOILER | Bradford | Gumtree

wouldnt go anywhere near a 2nd hand boiler let alone that horrible thing their flogging

Nope wouldn't touch them. Closest I come is occasionally moving existing within a property.

Its a tricky one isn't it?

I can see a slippery slope.

Moving a 6 month old boiler a few feet inside the same property? It would seem a bit ridiculous to refuse.
How about a 2 year old boiler from downstairs to upstairs?
Or "I am having a new boiler in the main house, but would like to re-use this 5yr old Platinum in the annexe, because it still has 5 years of warranty left, and its still the same postal address even though its a separate building

And by stages you get to a landlord wanting you to take out that "working" back boiler from one property, and mate it with the fire front his mate found on ebay and fit it in the flat he rents out to disabled old people.

I personally employ an air of common sense although I know some people will do anything if you pay. This is where we get dodgy installs not to standard and current regs. It's very sad but no one will clamp down on this.

if you move it more than a few feet, new building regs tickets required, so has to be compliant in everyway according to our local officers :)

I may move one inside the original property. But never install a second hand boiler. And a steaming pile of junk like that, there havin a llarf.

Ive ve looked for this before, any chance you know exactly where it says the above.

A select management co Durham have a shipping container full of secondhand appliances which have been involved in some insurance scams. And a regularly fitted by a joiner CP12 by a gas unsafe and then "stolen"

Not sure exactly where it states but gas safe have confirmed it to me recently

The only thing I can find in building regs is a new install or a replacement heat producer, says nothing about moving the old boiler within the same building, a few feet or to the other end of building.

Weve moved them before from kitchens to utilities. 2 feet or not bedroom to living room their still going to be as efficient or un'efficient as the last location. some regs do make laugh..

Move it all around the house even into the basement. But move it 1mm into an extension, conservatory or loft conversion and your in the soup

If someone was going for an upgrade and their existing boiler was ok, I might pass it onto someone who was stuck. Just charge them for fitting it.
have given two schools relatively new oil burners after another customer changed to gas. Schools in Ireland can be short of cash and these 2 had burners on their last legs.
They know there's no warranty. You do them a favour and it'll do you no harm in the long run.

Why, and where does it say it in BR.

You must comply with part L2 a non a rated boiler cannot be installed in a "new part if dwelling" it's fairly clear in the BR.

Just realised...... It's fine to move if a rated and in serviceable condition

Just get a brick match, fling the boiler in and say "yes my house has always been a 10 bed semi".
