Hi guys. Got a customer that I need to quote for. They are converting a old post office into office downstairs and flat upstairs. What are the regs for a secondary meter. I know emergency valve needs to be in flat. But who fits the second meter. And we're to get price from. First meter is in cellar. Second meter needs installeing on external wall so customer can put credit in, etc. cheers

Usually secondary meter is a standard u6/g4 and is used for tenant to pay for their part of gas used.

BES sell secondary meters and all fittings. If you have ccn1 then you can fit secondary meter.

Not sure about pre pay meters though

I think one of the main things you need believe it or not is a label saying"this is a secondary meter!" Good old HSE....

You must inform gas supplier about installing secondary meter.
There must be line diagram displayed near primary meter showing configuration of meters

Just a thought if they're converting, why not suggest they get seporate mains supplies? That way the suplier forks out the cost of the meters :)

Cost the custard a fortune thou. Standing charges. And the cost of the meter

But any gas safe engineer can fit one. You dont need a met ticket. Just ccn1
