Hi, I have recently qualified in my nvq level 2 technical certificate in plumbing and I am looking to begin my gas course. I have passed my water regs and also unvented hot water systems. I am funding the course myself but what I am struggling with is how to gain the onsite portfolio evidence. I have contacted hundreds of plumbing/heating companies but no one seems to be taking anyone on. Is there another way of gaining this evidence? would be grateful of any help or advice anyone can give me. Thanks.

Hi Paul & welcome
It is not so much about just gaining evidence for an a portfolio, as gaining the on the job experience to be able to work with gas & to be able to tackle the CCN1 with some confidants.
Can I ask what gas training have you had (Off & on the job), you will have not had any at college during your Level 2.

Hi Chris, I haven't had any to be honest, the gas course is my next preferable option but if I cant gain the relevant experience on site it seems a bit pointless to spend that amount of money. I am looking to gain qualifications in central heating whether that be gas or oil so really looking for any advice as to how I go forward

It is a difficult one I know but you do need some "off the job training" first then at least you will be helping who ever you can get work with. You can't (& shouldn't) expect a gas engineer to start from scratch & try to teach you (unless you what to pay them).
Just like you have found out at college you cant learn plumbing just at a college but equally you do need to do theory & be shown properly, it is just the same with the gas.

There are a lot of previous requesters on here Paul, it would probably help you to read some of the posts on this subject, it doesnt generally make for good reading though, good luck!
