Why?

Because!

We all earn over £80k a year!! Thats why!!

Thats what our last trainee said to us!!

We all earn over £80k a year!! Thats why!!

Wouldn't get out of bed for that

When I went to college, the course nearly stopped because of lack of numbers, no one wanted to be a plumber.

I wonder what the next big thing will be? oh yeah PV!

And i aint got a 12" ding along ding to be in the adult industry !! lol.

I'll expand on the question then.

My background was through an apprenticeship, think logically (use to have a great time as a kid taking things to bits and putting back together, come to think of it, still do), can be creative (bathroom design etc) and good at thinking on my feet (problem solving).

This though is aimed at people wanting to changing direction in life. Something which I don't have an issue with after spending time working abroad and not as a plumber and at the end of the day each to their own.
I read posts, a lot off them, on here about people training and then advertising their services free of charge to try and gain experience, as they cannot find a placement/employer.

So why do people put themselves through it all, who's telling them the 100k a year? and why aren't people doing their homework before setting off down that path and getting hold of the cold hard truths?

Now I see where yer coming from, and having retrained several times and had other careers, my reason for changing trades is I have the attention span of a guppy and get really bored really easily So thats why I have chopped and changed over the years
Its certainly not been for the money and thats a fact, If the truth be known I will always try not to earn to much because I resent paying income tax

i came into plumbing because i wanted to get back into becoming self emloyed why plumbing because im good at it and i really enjoy it

cos my dad is a heating and air con engineer,my grand dad was a builder, my grand grand dad was a builder .....the one before him was a traffic warden so I thought dont wanna be traffic warden

plumbings all i know all i have ever done followed in my dads foot steps oh and i know a thing or two about boilers as well but dont tell anyone

either wanted to be a joiner or a plumber(done a 6 month joinery course) ended up becoming a plumber with some help from my uncle lol, didnt put my expectations too high though considering i was never in school so didnt get glowing reports

most of my family work in the construction trade so was always going to be something to do with it i guess lol, couldnt see myself working in an office!

so I could join this forum plus there is a massive shortage of plumbers so it made sense to be one :)

When i was a younger used to wanna follow in my dads footsteps he was a bus driver then i got older and realised how terrible money is in that. My brother went into plumbing he took me on the occasional hobble or so when he done them, then i got work experience with his company for a week and loved it. Knew that was what i wanted to do and here i am now :D

Dad is/was a plumber (semi retired) seemed a natural progression to follow his foot steps, although I did get a place at university I decided that plumbing and was the route I wanted to follow. Enjoy most aspects, like the creative side (not just accountancy) and the pride in solving a technical problems or firing up a new heating system!, though being self employed does have a few downsides.....especially at the moment. Guess you can't have it good all the time!

Because I wasn't prepared to be a banker, lawyer or politician.
Because I don't like trade unions and the civil service and their general attitude to work.
Because I've already worked in computers, retail, insurance and various other jobs.
Because the computing world is too competitive (my previous choice).

Because before I became a plumber I phoned 18, got 2 replies and the one I chose charged me £400 for a day's labour ... and he was a bodger.

Because I feel I'm doing an actual service and assisting people who would like to, but can't do a job themselves.

Because I feel I've actually done a day's work and contributed to society.

Because it pays well? As if ...!!! But the enjoyment, variety, success and frustration of the job more than makes up for this.

i want to get in the industry because its something i enjoy doing,i did it for a while when i left school but circumstances blah blah....ive done numerous small jobs for myself and family and love it ,now i know i aint going to be a millionaire but i`d be happy earning 17-20 something a year doing a job i enjoy,i would love i job where i can stand back at the end of the day and say to myself i did that or i flooded that.
