Hi guys,

I mostly do installs but trying to get more service type work

Is there anything i need to look out for when servicing an ideal icos, iwas going to do all the usual checks and follow the service procedure in the manual.

Any thoughts or comments welcome

Thanks in advance

Clean the condensate ... check the heat shields are intact in the burner chamber and the spark gap is correct on the electrode ... Check the flue gasket is fitted correctly to the flue adapter.......! There's a few starters :)

Check combustion chamber linings, they have a tendency to come adrift, electrodes bend over time causing delayed ignition, I always rod through hex with a hacksaw blade rinse through and clean trap. And usual bits and bobs.

You will need a gasket kit fro a full strip down and new ionisation probes that hold the insulation around the burner in place. They have updated the design after lots of failures. Make sure the condense trap is clean as they block very easily and remove the sump cover at the bottom of the heat exchanger and clean that out

before doing anything order a ideal m series gasket set, there easy to service any cracking in the insulation panels, missing or distorted ionization probes under the burner, that needs fixing ASAP

£75 plus parts (20% on price of parts), all parts from a merchant as I find they can be cheaper than faffing around on ebay and buying off someone whose already bought fm preston gas spares and sat at home waiting for them to arrive. After all if you dont use your merchant they wont be there in years to come when you need them

The ionisation probes and flame detection probe is not the same thing.

The ionisation probes fit over the heat shield and both hold the heat shield in place and form part of the earth circuit. (you get a set of these in replacement heat shield kit).

I just wish that they would all call parts by the same name/role

Just looked on the van. Ionisation probes on their own. Part number 171845
