Hi guys, just had a potential client call me. She has got a combi boiler with a shower. All the other outlets are getting hot, but the water out of the shower valve is only luke warm.

Am guessing it is a thermostatic valve, and maybe something is wrong with the thermostat?

Am i right or wrong?

Is it a repair job some how?

Or replace?

Thanks for the help.

Regards

Mutley

i'm just about to do two in the same house with just that problem.
its either a HW flow problem - unlikely
or its thermostatic and the cartridge needs replacing.
i just get the model/manufacturer and source the parts on shower doctor
i charge half a day to do the job. should take less than an hour !!

if i can i usually get a new handle/lever kit if its not too expensive. that way i'm not in trouble if the old controls break when being removed
also the new controls look nice and shiny so custard is happy

If combi boiler first check is that the boiler DHW temp is up, some have it on the minimum setting and wonder why the shower is luke warm in winter.

It's better and more professional if you pop round yourself for a very quick survey. You'll get the part numbers correct while the customer may not and he/she will appreciate the extra effort that you're putting in to make sure that the parts needed are the correct ones.

I learned a long time ago, never trust a customer to order or describe parts. Do it yourself.

thanks guys. I shall pop around then. What if though, they do not have the instruction manual? Can you find the make and model on the valve?

She has already said that all the other hot water outlets are hot!

You should have the make, model and sometimes serial number on it. A quick search on Google will help after your visit. Good on you for going round yourself, she'll appreciate that.

So, the luke warm shower problem...solve! I went to the clients house, looked at the hot water temp on combi, was on high. So then go and take the shower head apart, to see if i can increase the thermostat. It works a little.

So, i think i shall clean the filters on the shower, can't find mains stopcock in flat. So, i look outside, can,t find that either.

Figure, i only have to clean hot water filter, so shall shut going into the boiler. Look at isolation valve at boiler, only open slightly. Open it up more, turn on shower and bingo!! Hot water. £40'S please. I am happy and so is custard!

Cheers for all your help guys
