shower pump help needed ......

hi all, looking for some advice on a shower pump , when it works the pump i have works fine , however it is on its last legs , i have a cylinder heated by a conventional boiler , the cylinder is in the loft with the pump at the base of it , cold water tank is above the cylinder and the shower mixer is below the pump in the bathroom , do i just need any common or garden pump for this situation or what , cant afford to spend a fortune but dont want to skimp at the same time , thanks for any help

Wouldn't fit a garden pump, just stick to the proper shower pumps. Salamander have a good range and are reliable or Stuart turner if you have money. Look on old pump for bar rating and buy same. I take it this is twin impeller?

it is a twin impellor , i had seen the salamander one that toolstation are selling , can you go wrong for £100 ? ......

I wondered what that is also! Assume he means a Essex flange that has a pipe into cylinder? I hate Essex flanges!

just had another root around in the loft and found that the hot is fed from the top of the cylinder in 22 mm , but the cold is fed from the tank in 15 mm , this does not sound right to me ......

But until the existing pump started packing up it worked fine? Replacing the pump would be a no brainer, as for fitting new flanges to your cylinder...

indeed , when it worked ok , it was fine , just wondering if the restriction of 15 mm on the cold side is worth sorting out .....

You have to ask, will 15mm pipe allow enough water for half the supply to a shower. The answer is yes, so if it's not broke - don't fix it.

thanks , thinking on , there is 2 15mm isolating valves 15mm Isolating Valve Pack of 10 | NoLinkingToThis , are they full bore or not ?

No, if they are the same as those screwfix valves. Replace them with full bore lever valves. There are larger slotted screw valves which are full flow.

If it's been working OK in the past, why start changing things?

Just put a new pump on...

i changed those 15mm valves for full bore 15mm valves , they were on the outlet of the pump anyway for some unknown reason ! , couldnt get a pump today , however i did a quick flow test of the pipework and have found i am getting ~ 30 l / min off the hot supply and ~ 15 l / min off the cold supply , is this ok ? ......

Sorted, ended up getting the £99 pump from b and q , well pleased with the pressure from it, and, surprisingly quiet

Not sorted, just worked out there is no Surrey flange on the hot feed , so I need to sort that , or fit an Essex flange , which though ......

What make of pump is it from B&Q Watermill?

If the pump is in the airing cupboard you can fit a Surrey flange if you wish, if the shower starved when someone uses a hot tap?

Yes , installed and running , try and picture this , hot feed comes off the top of the cylinder and runs horizontal for approx 18" , it then tees off horizontally , one side goes up and loops into the cold water tank the other runs down at around a 20 degree angle , about 3' along it tees off vertically into the shower pump , all ran in 22mm , the pump as struggling on he hot side but woks perfectly on the cold side , the pump is at the base of the cylinder in the loft and the shower is beneath the pump in the bathroom , hope all that makes sense .......

Just woke up after my knap so I'll try my best, the configuration sounds the pump is just sucking down the open vent, if I were you I'd fit a Surrey or do a 'proper' tee off like in this picture.

right , some more help please !! , just undone the compression nut on the hot water outlet and found this ....



i was expecting a 22mm to 1" screwed adapter in the top of the tank , but no , i have a male thread on the outlet formed onto the top of the tank , help !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

right , it is a 1" bsp male thread , so , out of the various options available , is any particular type of surrey / warix / salamander etc flange worth getting over another one ? .......
