Alright guys, don't usually deal with small repairs like this but it's for a family friend.

They've managed to unscrew and lose part of their shower trap/grating. No idea how that one happened but my questions is - if i buy any shower trap will the top screw in part fit into an other? (floors down so can't see what type of trap is underneath) or do they tend to be different?

For avoidence of doubt heres a couple of pictures -

That looks like the very common shower trap made by McAlpine.
You can order individual parts, as far as I know, but you probably will just be as easy to buy entire new trap & use the top chromed parts etc.
It now comes with a plastic tool to tighten the outer threaded part into the tray & then the container part fits inside & the grid part pushes in place.
Use sealant to seal bottom & top joint on tray.

Forgot to mention that I hope whoever originally fitted the tray, supported the waste & trap so that it hasn't fallen away too low for you to connect to! Good luck!

Aye luckily enough it is supported, still sitting in place anyway.
I had a look and buying the flange is the same price as the trap. Full trap it is then! Gives me the option to replace the full thing if need be

Traps come with different diameters but the one youve shown a pic if is a standard size . But bare in mind you get 50mm up to 90mm top access and the hole in the tray varies like i said from 50-90. So just make sure u measure and the threads are universal. If its unscrewed then it will be a top access trap as very rare for a trap and grating to unscrew but it is common fir TAT to unscrew.
