Hello everyone. Just would like to know how do I know where to fit a shower trap before a timber floor goes down. It's a square tray. Is there a rule of thumb where to position the trap before the floor goes down and the tray is fitted? Any help would be great thanks all.

will there be any access to the trap after the shower is in place?
if not then you need to fit the trap so that it finishes where it needs to be

Put a section of 18mm plywood temporarily on the joists, put the tray in position on top of it. Mark the outlet through the tray with a marker pen, cut out the hole and run the waste and trap to this position. It will then be fitted accurately for when you fit the new floor.

No access to trap i will need to place it where it will finish. And I don't have the tray ATM it's on order. So I will need the tray to know where to postion the trap. And as I'm having no access to the trap when the tray is down will I need to end up flush with the flooring or proud by a small amount?

The trap will come THROUGH the floor if it's a shower trap and then be fixed to the tray above the floor. You will need access to fit it, more so if it's a heavy stone cast tray.

What about testing the trap and pipework for water tightness? If you have not allowed for a access hatch at the front of the tray, you are taking a big gamble.
