idont fit many to the floor shower trays - mainly trays on legs . how do others fit the ones with out legs to a floorboard floor.

Sand and cement or flexible tile adhesive or of floor is level just some silicone

Depends on the floor and tray. A flat bottomed tray on a level, flat floor I would use silicone. On a hollow tray or on a floor that is out of level I use rapid set tile adhesive, or if on a site with bricklayers, I nick some gobbo!

Build a wood base for it level that then fit the tray never had any problems

If its a slick flat black plastic base use silicone. Resin I use flexible tile adhesive or plasterboard adhesive is a cheaper option, both stick well.
