Shower waste

I am renovating an old house, I'm in the the process of fitting a shower tray in an upstairs en-suite, which requires me to either raise the tray on a plinth or cut a hole in the floor for the waste. My question is this, how much depth do I need for a shower waste. The Joists are 6".

They can vary from manufacturer

I would if said that 6" is more than enough thou

Ah thank you, I haven't yet looked at wastes , so didn't realise there were options.
