Hi Folks

New to this forum and a little scared of plumbing, to be honest.

Anyway, maybe someone can help me here? We want to hook up a temporary kitchen sink as some major kitchen work is scheduled to be done over a period of some weeks. We have a oldish stainless steel sink which needs to have a waste trap connected and subsequent waste pipe, but I am having trouble working out how to make the connection to the undersink pipe.

The metal drain outlet pipe (or whatever it is called) from the sink is 20mm long and its internal (bore?) measurement is 35mm. The outer diameter (including the threads) is 40mm. The gap between the threads is 2.5mm.

All the plastic waste trap fittings I have (and presumably available in the shops) for a 35mm bore have an outer diameter which exceeds 40mm, albeit I gather these are known as 40mm parts.

How should I proceed - can I get an adapter to sort this, or should I do what my wife suggests and put a new sink doofer in the sink hole?

Thanks .....

if it temporary ..u could do a botch job with a bit of silicone !!!
realistically it would be wise to listen to the "boss"... did u not realize yet that they are always right ...!!!

Hi Buffy

Fair Play - I take it then that you don't know of any adapter?

As far as "Er indoors" is concerned, you are correct of course.:)

Might be tricky getting the old part out of the sink though .......

i cant picture what your on about you can get a inch and a half to inch and a quarter reducer and use that. put a pipe in the trap 1"1/2 reduce it to 1"1/4 then coupling it onto the waste pipe goin out of the wall - kitchen sink should be on 1"1/2 anyway so you should think of having this done. not sure how much more help i could give without seein the problem - maybe the problem is not enough room inbetween the pipe and waste to fit the fittings i mentioned abive - if its temp i would be tempted to silicone but to be honest i would get a proper plumber in core drill a new 1" 1/2 waste in and fit that ready for the new sink pal
