Got called out on a job today of a blocked toilet. Arrived at a block of flats (3 story high)and saw that a ground floor toilet would flush and very slowly drain.

Went outside and started lifting manholes, all looked clear but couldn't find where the stack branch line was. Had the customer run the basin and shower for a while but still couldn't see any flowing water in the manholes. I gave up looking (it's a fairly new build, don't know if new builds have a different drainage system to average age houses, I never really work on them) and started plunging the toilet. Spent a while plunging and the toilet. It did drain quicker then before but still not as quick as I'd expect.

Customer noticed it it wasn't perfect but was happy with the job and happy to pay. Although I'm expecting a call back! Am I right in saying that if the shower and basin are draining fine, then there is a high chance that it may be a case that the stack is poorly vented?

thanks!

Either not vented or if there's kids in the property then there's a toy or such stuck in the trap or the 4" just behind the loo.

I had the same once, took the pan out and stuck my arm in the stack up to my shoulder and pulled a lodged makeup mirror out

Wouldn`t be a brand new rim fresh hanging there by any chance, that`s often a clue.

Pah that's nothing had one last week I genuinely and honestly am not making this up removed, 1 silk scarf, I pyjama top, two gloves, 4 pegs, 1 plastic confectionary tray and a mop wrapper that was one sitting!!

previously I've been to the same property to retrieve a glass eye from the basin waste.

lass that lives there has severe learning difficulties and likes water, they've had to remove all the plugs so she can't keep flooding the bathroom. Down side is she now improvises
