Hi all I'm after getting into smart metering I've been a plumber for over 10 years. I have a NVQ level 2 in plumbing and level 3 NVQ in gas. I'm also gas safe with met 1 ,boiler, pipework ect. I also have my unvented bpec cert. I've tried getting a job doing this but they all seem to want 1 years experience. I would be prepared to work for free to gain this experience. Manchester area. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks Matt.

Am I thinking of something different but isn't smart metering electric and you have plumbing qualifications?

Isn't smart metering just a BG experiment ? I was talking to a Transco guy at a job yesterday & he was saying they aren't installing any locally anymore, just U6 & E6 etc.

All the utilities will be installing Smart meters. BG are the main ones but the others will follow as the government have said it must be done by 2020.

governments say a lot of things that never happen, home information packs ring a bell :)

True, but I think too much money has been invested in this. As I say all the utilities will be doing it in the next year or so.

Too much money in it to fail? Hello UK defence budget, hello British telecom, hello parcel force.............. Oh and the 1 trillion billion NHS database - which is depending on paper notes and scanners.

That's too much government money, I mean too much money invested by big companies (namely the utilities). I won't say never but think this ones here to stay. Still haven't heard what the OP wants to know and why yet though!
