This Smeg Modena tap is dripping from the hot cartridge. I've got the replacement ready to go, but can't budge the square cartridge cover shown in picture.

It's not clear from the parts diagram whether the cartridge cover is threaded, bayonet, or perhaps push-fit onto dowels. As I've no wish to break a £150 tap (I think? last owner fitted it) can someone please tell me how the cover is attached and suggest the best non-destructive way to shift it?
