no drop at meter-smell of 'gas?' but strangely not defined as gas smell for sure!
no drop at meter and sprayed all the honeywell gas valve and nothing..

only smells when boiler fires up, all seals are good.
could it be a makerel on the pipes, any ideas, customer says its always been like that. anything i have missed?

Checked all the seals?

What gauge are you using? Water or electric?

yes, first thing checking case seals on a rs, use water gauge.
theres 2 big holes above where pipes run and by the sound of it, the occupier is used to resetting boiler frequently.
there is a kettling sound in the pipes too, just wondering if its a heat smell and not gas?

Came across this before - no drop at meter and nothing registering on gas sniffer with boiler case off and running, the "gas smell" turned out to be the remnants of DS40 de-sludger leaking from joints above boiler evaporating off. Smell was more sulfurous than natural gas but had customer worried he had rotted gas pipe with "additive" the shop gave him.

The system is sludged up and kettling and reading between the lines he is sick of it needing re-set.
Tell him to keep it set low and it won't lock out and tell the landlord it is on its last legs and needs looking at in the next 5 years lol

thats a good one!
there is a by-pass directly above boiler with a gate valve and its furred up all around with a yellow gundge like fungus growth!

I had similar a couple of yrs ago also on a Glowworm IIRC
The gas valve was leaking but only after ignition, so no drop detected on TT and only a slight whiff now and then

did you manage to detect exactly where it was passing and what did you do/?

IIRC it was leaking through the body after the solenoid, just replaced valve and it was sorted
My sniffer traced it but I didn't ldf it to exactly pinpoint it

You use gas sniffer all round gas vale area on operation & then an ambient FGA all around boiler especially flue turret and rear of boiler?
As mentioned...time it was junked!!

This is how I would approach it too, cover all the bases.
