soldered tee

Hi all,

I want to cut a 15mm copper pipe feeding my kitchen sink cold tap and solder in a tee fitting.

however the length i want to tee into is about 4-5 inches long with a soldered elbow at either end. Am I soldering too close to existing fittings and will I be at risk of unsoldering them in the process? Can I use a pair of grips either side to act as a heat sink? Any advise would be much appreciated.

Should be fine. Just be careful when turning water back on just in case there is a leak.

For extra confidence you can get some heatsink gel to put on the pipe to stop the spread of heat to the other joints.

as said you should be fine ive been within mm of other fittings before always have a good check when water goes back on aswell

puts my mind at rest. what are your thoughts on metal compression fittings on polyblumb pipe? ok with copper olives?

for polyplumb pipe you want hep2o plastic pushfit

so no to compression on polyplumb? I worry about the pushfit ones coming apart when im on holiday 😱

Compression fittings OK but use a couple of wraps of PTFE around olive.
