Could anyone tell me is there much work involved in taking out a HAMCO solid fuel stove and replacing it with one of those pot belly solid fuel heaters. The Hamco stove does hot water and heats the rads as well, and is linked up to an oil boiler. Is it just a matter of draining the system down, disconnecting the pipework to the stove, and reconnecting pipes to the new pot belly. I dont know how many tappings there are but i would assume there are 4 ie 2 for hot water flow and return, and 2 for rad flow and return.
This is just a small bungalow with only about 4 rooms with gravity fed central heating. What about fluing for this type of arrangement? All help is very much appreciated.

You need to see the instructions for flow and return pipework, but flow normally comes from the top and return to the bottom.

As for flueing You shouldn't be installing your stove unless you are a HETAS registered technician, and if you were you wouldn't be needing to ask those questions. It will need to be commissioned and airflow and combustion tested as well.

Leave it to the proper people. Never take any chances with combustion appliances of any type. Just not worth the risk.

When you say linked up to an oil boiler, is this via a 2 coil cylinder on open vented circuit independent to the oil boiler?

I agree totally with WHPES. But it doesn't mean you need to give them the whole job. There's a fair amount of wet plumbing involved and a helper for a HETAS "worker" is often useful when installing a flue and stuff like that, even if it's not you signing the job off.

Thks guys for your reply, and i had a feeling in my heart not to be touching it,but i had done a job for her before and said i would look into it. I Will now be telling her im not qualified to go near it. It would be ideal if i could give the job to a registered engineer and i could tag along for the experience.

If you are a plumber by trade, why not do the HETAS course yourself (it's a short course and easy done) and you can then do the stove and you are also qualified to do other peoples!

Otherwise you can find a registered installer here [DLMURL="http://www.hetas.co.uk/nearest_member"]HETAS[/DLMURL]
