Hi all

Is say Wickes 32mm & 40mm solvent waste compatable with Screwfix solvent waste. I know the sizes are stated the same but I'm sure I have heard of variations across makes........?

Cheers...................🙂

I'm in engineering in the rail indusry why do you ask....?

Hi. Just as a matter of interest. What do you do for a living?

Just reliased how daft my question may seem as in 32mm will be 32mm surely......!!!!! I did hear that cross mixing diferent makes has had problems. I imagine due to each manufacturers tollerances etc even though I guess they are made to BS or similar.

Solvent is all the same size from all manu's except overflow. Pushfit is smaller and Surefit is bigger. Multifit fits all.

when you go to a job and you need some more waste pipe you will have no idea of the make of what is already installed 99 times out of 100 so just fit which ever you normally fit or if this is DIy, which ever is cheapest

I can confirm to you taht 32mm is 32mm as measured by my tape and the guide on my spirit level 🙂

Thanks for the replies gents, the reason I was asking is that I was going to buy the fittings from Screwfix and the pipe from Wickes, as Screwfix only do pipe in packs and not singles and I don't need much...........

Another question regarding solvent weld, when you cut the pipe what's the best way tp clean up the edges, does using emery/sand paper scratch the plastic too much or is this ok as it gives it a key.......?

Cheers..........🙂

I use a stanley knife. A new hacksaw blade means the edges don't require much cleaning but the blade blunts very quickly!

Just run your fingers round it to remove the burr. Sandpaper is fine too if you like.

Hi. I had seen your handle used on several occasions on differing subjects. Which prompted me to ask the question. No offense meant. But if it St Pancras your re-plumbing get someone in. Good Luck

Nice one, I plumbed St Pancras a couple of years ago, its just my bathroom I'm doing now.

Joking apart I'm just using the forum to its best to get the best advice to some questions I have.........!!!

Cheers........🙂
