today i installed 4 x chrome 3 column radiators at a cost of £4600 just for the rads and valves......it gets to me how much people **** their money up the wall just to make a room look good!!!....more flippin money than sense!!
and it's got me wondering what you guys have been installing and how much did they cost?? i'd be interested to find out if anyone has had a similar story to mine.🙂

i also installed a cdi42 combi with new gas main to boiler...total job inc labour £7300....and they didn't even bat an eyelid!!

There not crackers theve just got more money than you simples
I did a job recently from scratch - gshp , underfloor and rads with two bathrooms, 2 en suites , 480 litres unvented dhw plus some other bits n bobs (oil back up ) £24000.00 .

But I did not manage it in a couple of days obviously

about 5 years ago, a foreign bloke asked me to install a perfect system to his mansion house. his specs where along the lines of "mostly 4 people living there, but sometimes 20 and allow for a party of 100 all using hot water regular"
ok, worked it out, designed it right, he wanted to provide all materials (know you now where he came from) agreed. quoted nearly 10k for 3 months work, squabbled it down to 8.5 - still ok in my book
3 seperate floors all electronically controlled, heating and hot water zone valves. was a nice system.
on the bottom floor where everybody could see his radiators, they where from the radiator company with brass roca valves about 2k each rad!!
on the top floor where he lived a nice shower room beautifull shower taps 800 quid grohe jobbies. his perfect (in his opinion) tiler couldnt cut a whole around the tap so cut the tile into 9 pieces and skipped the middle bit it out !!
i saw it was fuming, took hammer to his tilework and made it look pretty myself. he came back enraged that i had upset his tiler !!
i left, didnt go back.

Did a bathroom out where they had bought the most expensive gear - £1000 shower enclosure, £500 mixer, all custom machined black granite tops and inset basins, black granite tiles and chrome. Fancy inset lighting and the blind on the bathroom window cost £600!

We all spend our money differently and have different priorities. I installed a bathroom where I didn't buy/supply the taps or sanitaryware, but it must have set him back a few thousand. Beautiful taps and very modern basin and shower, etc.

I know of someone who spent just under £10k on a greenhouse and someone who spent more than £10k. I'm happy to get away with £300.

A couple of years ago I spent £85 on a box of poker chips - most other people would say that's a total waste of money.

And some people spend over 6 figures on cars ...

And 15 or so years ago, I paid a plumber £9,000 for replumbing the central heating in a house and installing a hot water cylinder. Just called him in to have a look at the system and went by his recommendation of what we needed. Never went for a second quote or opinion and kept recommending him to loads of other people.

Some people want quality with different things and for me, it's a pleasant surprise when I find that money and time is the least of the worries. Instead they want quality fittings and care over the installment. It means you can spend that little extra effort and know it will be rewarded.

If you earn £10k and spend £5k on something, that's extravagance. But if you earn £1 million and spend £5k, that's pocket money.

i got a bathroom coming up in the next month or so and the customer has spent £800 just on taps (so she says) and £1000 on shower tray and enclosure. its clean off if you ask me although she is very house proud everything has to be perfect.
but then im the same with my car i wont think twice about splashing say £1500 on an engine just to make my car that bit quicker.

I once fitted 6 service valves for £100 😱

Oh and reseated two taps

I must admit, I don't consider what the fittings are worth. I might be too frightened to handle them properly if I did.

Must have put loads of all kinds of stuff in over the years, never really thought about it.

So long as the company gets paid for the job, the cost of none company supplied materials is not really a concern of the company, you should charge the same for labour, to a millionaire as to an ordinary customer. If your affordable, your affordable. I don't suppose we should expect to make a bundle off millionaires anyway. Its probably by being careful with cash they became millionaires in the first place. And lets be honest if they where to find out you had jacked up your rates because they where loaded, would they have you back?
