Hello all.

I'm currently working through my study books ahead of my forthcoming gas exams.

I'm stuck on one question and wondered if anyone could help

Question: What should be done with a gas fire that was fitted without an atmospheric sensing device (ASD) prior to 1996?

I think the answer is that it should be marked (NCS) not to current standards and as long as not fitted in a bedroom is ok.

All help welcomed.....Thanks a lot :)

Dan

you should refer to the appliances section in the IUP, where it will show you,
re your answer, its confusing me a bit the way its written (my fault, not yours) my explanations is (after confirming the fire is working properly) in a bedroom is NCS, in the lounge etc, no issue as the appliance is fine as it is fitted as per its design, however good practice would lead me to discuss the benefit of having an open flued appliance with a safety device, and also better to have a CO alarm in the room as well

Thanks very much for your reply.

2 quick things:

1. What is IUP?

2. Why would you consider there being no benifit to an open flued appliance having an ASD?

Thanks a lot :)

GIUSP .. Gas Institute Unsafe Situations Procedure ----- It's not that fires wouldn't benefit from an ASD they didn't have to have them :)

Agh ok gotcha. Nice one thanks for that. Actually I have now looked at the gius regulations on gasbags website and you're dead right it's all there.
Thanks a lot.

2 again sorry, explain for the hard of thinking (me)
if the fire is pre 96 and in a living room, it isnt really NCS it is OK, only when in the bedroom and fitted before 96 is it NCS, what i meant was although the pre 96 living room fire is ok i would be suggesting the benefits of a newer one which had an OSD for EXTRA safety but it isnt mandatory
