I have been asked to look at a failing push down tap in a public toilet. Water flows when the top is pushed down. When the top pops back up water is still flowing on occassions. Any ideas as to the fault.

Without demouting the tap ahd having a look inside I suspect a fault spring or washer? Am I barking up the right tree?

If so are parts easy to get hold of for such an item or is it likely to be a whole new tap.

as said above concussive taps. you can but a repair kit direct from the manufacturer 6quid or just replace the tap (as i do)

Superb. Many thanks.
I had a look at the tap today and concur with your views, so you have given me confidence in my decision making.

However it appears that on the tap in question the previous installed had lost/taken out the brass retaining screw for the top of the tap. As a conseqiuence the top had slightly lossened and this relieved the spring slightly hence letting by thge water.

Funnily enough the school have had several argument with the previous contractors over the standard of work and were not suprised when I showed them the possible fault.

Thanks again for your advice. If it fails again I will obtain a new tap I think.

If it's the pegler prestex taps, I think you can get repair kits.

Spring loaded taps are qutie expensive, about £75 per tap when I last bought any. (you can of course get the Chinese knock-offs but they soon wear out when used all the time all day)
