Hi
Been asked to change an immersion on this cylinder (well it's not a cylinder as such as it's not cylindrical!!!) it's encased in insulation and a hardboard case!!!
It looks like some sort of combination unit as there is a warning pipe and cold feed on the top- anyone come across these before ?
Cheers

Looks like an old Elson tank, from Elsey and Gibbons.

Used to be common back in the eighties. A real earner when you come to scrap it.

There should be a label somewhere, and it will be the name of a gemstone - I think there was Diamond, Ruby, Emerald, Opal, Amethyst and a few others - all slightly different designs.

Thanks Ray appreciate the info.
It's all encased in this hardboard and tucked way high up the airing cupboard so couldn't see a label !!
Gonna have to drain it all to change the immersion which I presume is 11"
Oh joy

Check around base for water marks on hardboard it's an older one by looks of it and they love to rot out . Also check the primary pipework / rocket inside as these can be a mess. Hope it's got a doc ! Or syphon it oot .
