Gas Engineer

I am getting far too busy for 2 people I have working for me and need to add another good gas engineer. I have always found staff through recommendations, at the moment that isnt working.

For those of you that employ people in their business, how did you find your staff?

For those of you that are employed, how did you go about finding your job?

If you were looking to change jobs, where would you look?
Trying to find the best place to advertise etc.

I’ve looked on direct websites, eg BG, manufacturers. Failing that I’ve looked on the websites or apps of indeed, total jobs and reed.

Anyone else had any experience of this?

I have tried advertising on Indeed, but just got a load of people who didn't meet the criteria and it can be quite expensive too. Had an advert up for a couple of weeks and no one person who applied had the relevant qualifications and/or skills.

I have asked my merchants if they know anyone looking for a job at the moment, but nothing yet.

Based in south London/surrey border. Training centres may be an option, but ideally looking for someone with a bit more experience who can work on their own without any assistance.

I have had a couple of subbying jobs from gas chat on facebook

Thanks for the help Scott, very much appreciated. I’m not overly active on social media, but I will certainly take a look.

Unless you already have a book keeper diary phone answer person you will need to find one along with your new engineer. Once you have three people employed you really start moving away from being on tools into being a manager.

Finding someone good is another problem as most engineers who are good just become self employed. If you find someone good by sheer luck they will have an awful lot of leverage because you know if they leave you will struggle to find another. In my personal opinion bigger companies don't look for good engineers, they just use anyone who can turn up then take payment regardless of result. If customer isnt happy getting to director is not an option its pay invoice or go court. The problem in the industry is our skill ceiling is so high the breadth of knowledge and experience of a good engineer can be immense and customers pay the same for a gas engineer as they do to have their gutters cleared or tiling done.

That doesn’t really bother me, as that is the end game. I don’t want to be on the tools all my life. I’m looking to build a team of good employees on good wages to keep them happy. It’s just finding the right person at the moment which I am struggling with.

LinkedIn maybe a option post up a quality job you have completed and add you are looking to expand your workforce good rates of pay for the suitably qualified engineer. Kop
