My sequential control on my Bristan Colonial Thermostatic Shower has tightened up so that it is almost impossible to adjust the temperature. Initially problem was it wouldnt turn off completely, so I fitted an On/Off tap on the riser to showerhead, Thus leaving temperature control in about the right position. Now cannot really adjust it.

What causes the sequential control lever to malfunction?

Probs limescale or debris, you shouldn't have needed to fit an isolating valve on the riser though, isn't that a bit unsightly?

Isolate the water and check the filters are fitted and clean, then remove the cartridge and inspect, clean, descale

I don't think debris or limescale is the cause. It's on a soft water supply and is only a couple of years old. Was working ok, but gradually the handle seemed to need harder force to stop water dripping when off. This has happened on a previous similar model,a Gainsborough and eventually it just turned without shutting off supply. By setting it at about the right temperature position and using the riser control to switch on and off I didn't need to use the handle control. At first whilst water was running I could move the handle easily, but gradually it has stiffened up to its present condition.
