Hello all,

We have recently moved into a home, completed in mid 2014. With much heavy rain over the past month, we have seen the gutters overflowing all around the house. We have 2 x 10,000L tanks that the down pipes flow water into, and the excess water flows into storm water out to the street.

Initially we thought the gutters were blocked, and have had a plumber come out who has checked and cleared. He has told us that the issue is actually that the down pipes are 90mm, and that the underground pipes leading to tanks are also 90mm (instead of 100mm).

He said the solution is to dig up all the storm water pipes and replace with 100mm.

Questions i have;

  • does this sound like the reason for the gutters overflowing?
  • is replacing the pipes the only solution?
  • does 90mm underground pipes meet Australian standards?

Thank you in advance
