i have come up agains't an incomimg water main it is about 18mm external bore,the problem i have is what to use to couple up to my 15mm cooper,i can't change it or i would .i tried a 20mm (with ptfe wrapped around)to 15mm straight coupler, this didn't work, is there any thing out there, or any good tips from the been there done that brigade, ta.
 
It will be an old 3/8" pipe. "bore" relates only to the internal diameter. The terminology for the outer diameter is "outside diameter" or "OD".

Trouble is there were several different makes of imperial pipe, each with their own different outer diameters.

However the Philmac universal couplings are the industry standard for connecting. You can use the Polypipe or Plasson ones but have to buy the imperial adapter thingys for them which not all plumbers merchants stock.
