has anyone worked for british gas as a subcontracter, Is it worth doing .
Dose any Know any other companies that sub out work

You'd be best to sub to bg doing Servicing only. Doing repairs you get paid once a job is complete/price work, therefore u may spend for talking sake an hr per day on a nightmare headscratcher job for 3days(1hr per day for 3days) and if u complete the job on the 3rd visit then u get paid for basically 1hr/1 completed job. Servicing is the smartest way to go IMO. My mate subs for bg to this day, he's quite happy, it's suits him. 8.30 - 16.30 mon-fri. And the on a rare occasion he'll work a saturday or Sunday. He does do repairs for them but I thnk that's for his own sanity rather than helping out, he gets bored out his mind doing service only

Hi

I did apply but failed either the test or the 100 questions on character, don't know which.

The test had some odd questions, especially on gravity system. I was doing the test on line at home, and had to use the internet, to find some of the answers.

Cheers

Did central heating installations for them.

Lousy payers, but possibly better if you get the right sort of jobs. Apparently if a salesman sells the install to the customer the prices are tighter than if one of their inspectors sell it.

Apparently as far as I know the salesman gives a set price without seeing the job, the inspector works the price out after seeing the job.

They usually give you a detailed price list of the component parts of a job, so when you finish the job you just go around with them and agree what you have done. That is the theory.
What I found is that you get a price for say per meter of pipe. But its the same for a direct run as it is for one going under walls, which obviously can take you longer.

But some guys and gals like it and seem to do well. Get a price list off them and decide for yourself but watch the type of houses they offer you as some can be awkward regarding runs.

Don't service boilers anymore they do a "Boiler inspection"
They actively encourage you cut corners to get in and out.
You get £20.00 per inspection they also pay you to get an appointment for a salesman to call in-order to try to sell the client a boiler whether they need it or not.
Its a huge scam they sell their service contracts as a way to knock over the smaller companies who can't compete at their level and make their money on the sell ons.
I better stop now, I can feel a rant coming on, they will try to slaughter us all so be careful with them, somebody has to pay for their jaguars.
