My friends dad had a system boiler installed in replacment of an old floor standing boiler. The unvented cylinder is right next to the boiler. The firm has fitted the system boiler. But ignored the fact the pressure relief is dripping on the cylinder. As the expansion vessel has lost its charge they even tested the expansion vessel and said it had no air in it. However they didn't recharge they just fit the new system boiler and left. Isn't this really bad practice on there front? Thanks.

Yeh that's bad practice, they should have left the full system functioning, they might have had to charge a extra if they were only paid to do a boiler swap, especially if the vessel needs replacing, but tbh if all it needs is pumping up I'd have just done it.

The thing like that could lead down a rabbit hole what happens if they recharge the vessel and it doesn’t fix it, customer could say it’s fine before you touched it

I understand yes. But hooking a boiler up to a unvented cylinder that has no expansion on it and walking away. I found abit odd.

when was it last serviced ?

Agree with others, the boiler and cylinder are separate items. Boiler installers might not have G3. Agreed it would be good practice to sort, and if it was me and one of my customers I'd mention it and advise them i'd need to take a look with the intention of sorting it.

But as Shaun says, you could be opening a can of worms - especially if it's not a regular customer and you're just doing a straight boiler swap. It's their responsibility to ensure the cylinder is serviced regularly - Personally if I wasn't qualified to touch it i'd advise they'd get someone to check it at least and tell them it should be serviced annually.

The issue is many people either don't know about servicing of the Unvented cylinders or don't care as they usually don't break down like a boiler would.

I'm no sure ShaunCorbs.

Thanks for the feed back. I guess it could be argued that to fit system boilers one should be g3 registered. I guess that isn't the case though.
