Tech cert 3 and Gas Safe

I recently heard that someone went to do ACS, CCN1 and then register and was told that their 6129 Level 3 Tech Cert gas training wasn't recognised and so the Technical Certificate looks to be a waste of time?

I mean, you could surely just do seperate Water regs, Unvented and ACS/CCN1 after you complete your basic NVQ2 and Tech Cert2????

6129 Level 3 Tech Cert does not normally allow you to just do your ACS

candidates that have no formal qualification in gas. In order to do a ACS assessment the candidate must also have ‘on the job training/experience’ to supplement the training course at the centre.

at all the gas training centres, all "student" are placed in categories 1, 2 and 3
1) is bog standard renewal before expiry of existing ticket i.e. "competent"
2) is for anybody in the plumbing industry who wishes to start on gas, and is able to make/provide a portfolio, that proves your competency. you need to do all work under supervision of a "competent and registered" engineer. only then will they allow you to sit your a.c.s's
3) new entrants to trade, no plumbing or gas experience. unfortunately they are in for an expensive training regime.

surely to get the ACS you need to be doing NVQ level 3 as well as The tech cert 3 with it or already complete

i have my nvq3 in heating and vent and i was classed as a level 2 candidate. i just sat my ccn1 theory today and doing practical tomor but havent done a portfolio, all i need is the gas engineer i been working with to sign a letter saying i have worked with him on gas for x amount of time. which they havent asked me for yet

it is plumbing NVQ2> or equivilant, so H&V ok

I personally speaking would not trust the new gas safe body, as far as I could pi55 into the wind, I reckon its a bigger con than CORGI was, talk about being in bed with the government, a 1 million pound "donation" to the labour party is chicken feed that they will screw out of the gas industry workers, over the time they are the body concerned with gas installations etc, the link below makes interesting reading, god help you lot in the UK if they only make half the balls ups they have made in other central government contracts they have
